Hi! I'm Ms. Beth, and the guy below me is Mr. Fleener, and for as long as I can remember, I've wanted to teach. I have been teaching many different subjects in American Sign Language and English to our sensory impaired clients including K-12 content for over 18 years. The last 6 years I have been working with families to custom design curriculum for children with special needs who homeschool. I started a small home preschool 3 years ago and have loved teaching children in my community! I have been teaching online at SIGN Preschool since May 2020. I have a background in disability studies, psychology, and early childhood education.
Mr. Fleener has been teaching sign language to all age groups for over 15 years both in person and online. Now, we get to teach YOUR child online! We can't wait!!

Why Learn Sign Language?

- Learning sign language improves memory and cognitive abilities in both typically hearing and hearing impaired children.

Lastly, the earlier a child learns a new language the easier it is for them to do so and the more quickly they can become fluent. Also, knowing more than one language in childhood makes it easier to learn other languages later in life.
At our preschool, we use the FUNDAMENTALS Preschool Curriculum by Joy Anderson, an activity-based curriculum with developmentally appropriate activities that will prepare your child for kindergarten in as little as 1 hour each day! We also use Handwriting without Tears, RightStart Mathematics, Learning Dynamics, Learning A-Z, TKS Boot Camp, and Montessori inspired activities to make sure your child has access to best programs for reading, writing, math, science and social studies. We also follow the California Preschool Learning Foundations from the California Department of Education. All presented in sign language with spoken English support. There's no need for you to supplement curriculum at home!
We make sure that your child is ready for Kindergarten or First grade by introducing and teaching all academic subjects at the Kindergarten level while adapting activities to be developmentally appropriate.

Got questions?
Do you take students with special needs? Yes! Our program is designed to be inclusive. If your child has a speech issue or autism, is non-verbal or semi-verbal we welcome them. Our classes are also good for children who are hard of hearing and not yet receiving services. We will help support your efforts to get your child get evaluated by your local school district and have an IEP written if you would like. If your child already has an IEP (Individualized Educational Plan) then we will do our best to help work on their goals during class time.
Do parents have to be present? No. You do, however, need to log your child into the online classroom at the start of each class, but then you can either stay or do other things you need to do in another nearby room. Some parents like to stay and learn with their child.
Do parents have to print things off or help outside of preschool class? Our curriculum is designed to be hands-on and self-contained within our preschool class each day so you don't have to supplement additional curriculum during the day. We do provide more materials that you can print.
Do parents have to buy art materials? No. There are no supplies required. Children might like to have their favorite drawing or coloring utensils.
Are there other costs besides my registration and monthly tuition? No. There are no other costs required to participate.
Is this an online "learning" video game or worksheet website? No. Just real, social interaction between an amazing teacher (that's US!) and a small class of amazing school friends. For the preschool kids we provide optional resources to increase their learning. If your family allows tablet time then we do recommend the Khan Academy Kids app and that is the only one we recommend for 2 to 3 year olds since it doesn't have fast changes and doesn't allow the children to switch too quickly between activities. Our class has a code you can use for the app and our teachers will be able to see the areas that your child needs to work on within the app and can address those in class as well. It's great for when you are waiting somewhere and want some quick educational activity to do.
What's the difference between your online preschool and Hooked on Phonics or ABC Mouse? We provide face-to-face social interactions to prepare your child in EVERY WAY to develop socially, emotionally, physically, cognitively, and linguistically. We believe preschool is a hands-on experience and we are literally using our hands all the time!
What if my child is shy, active, loud, crazy, etc.? After 18 years of teaching and 3 years of teaching preschool, I think I've seen just about every type of child there is. I'm excited to teach your child and help him or her have a wonderful experience!
What requirements do I need to participate? You'll need internet and a laptop or desktop computer. You can use an iPad or a phone but we don't recommend it because it's too hard to see everyone's faces and actually socialize with them. And it might be better for you to connect your computer or tablet to your TV. A printer is also recommended (the Epson EcoTank line of printers work very well if you don't have a printer already).
I'm not technical. Will you show me how to login? Yes. It's easy! And we will help you troubleshoot any issues that might come up.
What platform is this using? We use Google Meet, a free platform. The links we use to join our online classroom are exclusive to our preschool families so no one else can access the online classroom. Plus, our online classroom is monitored by a teacher (that's ME!) at all times when in use.
